Alpe d’Huzes is a Dutch initiative to collect money for the KWF, the official, national body in Holland for the fight against cancer. All donations are directly given in full to the KWF.
Alpe d’Huzes (number 6 in Dutch is “zes”) is a non-timed event. By participating, each cyclist guarantees at least 2 500 €. In Holland, the whole country (companies, shopkeepers, craftspeople, VIP and individuals) rallies together. Many donations are collected, rather like the Téléthon in France or Comic Relief in the UK.
In 2017, the sum of 10.021.548 € in donations was collected. Since its creation in 2006, Alpe d’Huzes has gathered more than 151 million euros.
A great number of people is expected on road RD211 leading to Alpe d’Huez. This road stays open to all vehicles during the event.
